GTA 6 Editions Explained: Standard vs Ultimate, and What $20 Extra Actually Buys

Pre-orders are open, prices are official, and the choice is simpler than the marketing makes it look. GTA VI ships in two editions — Standard at $80 and Ultimate at $99.99 — plus a pre-order bonus pack that comes with both. Here’s exactly what each tier gets you, per Rockstar’s official listings, and who each one actually makes sense for.

    Standard Edition — $80

The full game, nothing missing that matters: the complete Jason and Lucia campaign across Leonida, single-player at launch, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Physical copies are code-in-box — no disc — so the “physical” choice is about shelf presence, not preservation.

Who it’s for: almost everyone. Nothing in the Ultimate tier changes the story, the map, or the missions. And if you change your mind later, Rockstar has confirmed a paid upgrade path from Standard to Ultimate — so choosing Standard now locks you out of nothing.

    Ultimate Edition — $99.99

Twenty dollars more buys an exclusive collection “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story” — cosmetic and convenience items, not story content. Based on Rockstar’s own press materials, the collection includes:

    • Premium vehicles — among them the Grotti Cheetah, the Electric Fang bike, a Squalo speedboat, the Stock 305, a Vapid Buggy, a Ganado retro build, the Wyman car collection, and safehouse vehicles.
    • Two exclusive Vehicle Mod Shops — customisation spots (Rideout Customs among them) “exclusively open for business with the Ultimate Edition”.
    • Personalised weapons — the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, the “One-Eyed Willie”, and weapon variants.
    • Apparel and style — Vice City Style outfits, Goodtime Gear, plus Sara’s Salon and the PTT Store.

Who it’s for: players who know they’ll live in this game for months and want the garage full on day one. It’s the GTA Online-style cosmetic economy, priced up front.

The pre-order bonus — Vintage Vice City Pack (both editions)

Pre-order either edition, digital or physical, and you get the throwback pack: a two-tone ’55 Vapid Stanier, the Shore Court Garage on Ocean Beach, retro outfits for Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern. Digital pre-orders also add one free month of GTA+ — though note it’s still unconfirmed whether GTA VI’s online mode exists at launch at all, so treat that as GTA Online value, not GTA VI value.

    The PlayTheory take

The $80 Standard is the honest buy: everything that makes GTA VI GTA VI is in it, and the upgrade path removes all fear of missing out. The Ultimate’s $19.99 premium is fair if you’re the player who spent real money on GTA Online garages — you know who you are. What we’d push back on is pre-order urgency itself: the bonus pack is nice, not transformative, and the game launches in four months either way. Check the GTA VI hub before launch — if Rockstar adds tiers or bonuses, this page gets updated first.

GTA VI lands on November 19, 2026, and the space between what Rockstar has actually said and what the internet believes has never been wider. Here’s the PlayTheory ledger: every major fact that’s genuinely confirmed, and the rumours worth tracking — clearly labelled, because that’s the deal here. If Rockstar hasn’t said it, we won’t pretend they have.

    Confirmed — straight from Rockstar

    Ledger v2.0 — updated July 16, 2026 · changelog
    ✓ Confirmed

Release date: Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, per Rockstar Newswire. No PC version announced at launch — history says it comes later, but that’s inference, not fact.

    ✓ Confirmed

Setting: the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, with modern-day Vice City at its heart.

    ✓ Confirmed

Two protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos — a criminal duo, and the first female lead in mainline GTA history.

    ✓ Confirmed

Pre-orders opened June 25, digital and physical (physical copies ship as a code-in-box), in Standard and Ultimate editions — the Ultimate adds premium vehicles, apparel, and personalised weapons.

    ✓ Confirmed

Preload dates are set ahead of launch — our full preload breakdown has the schedule and file-size guidance.

    ✓ Confirmed

Single-player at launch. There is no dedicated multiplayer on day one. Whatever GTA Online’s successor looks like, it arrives after November 19.

    What the community is watching

    1.3Mr/GTA6 members
    21Kwaiting on the next trailer
    7 / 5confirmed vs open claims

r/GTA6 — 1.3 million members deep — spent the last month on three things: pre-orders going live, the first look at the physical edition, and a new video on Rockstar’s site that had half the subreddit frame-by-framing it within the hour. The pinned counter says it all: 21,000 people flagged as “looking for the next trailer.” Mapping communities — including TGG’s ongoing GTA 6 Mapping Project — keep reconstructing Leonida from every frame of released footage, and their July update stitched in the new pre-order screenshots.

Rumoured — the ledger, by confidence

    ◇ Possible

32-player online sessions. Sourced to former Rockstar employees; Rockstar has said nothing. Unconfirmed.

    ◆ Likely

Procedural glass physics — glass breaking dynamically based on force and impact point. Plausible, widely reported, never confirmed.

    ⚠ Unverified

An in-game social network with advanced NPC routines triggering side missions — this traces back to an Amazon listing, which is thin sourcing. Unconfirmed.

    ⚠ Unverified

    A user-generated content economy (“GTA 6 will produce millionaires”) — a creator’s claim, not Rockstar’s. Heavily unconfirmed.

    ◆ Likely

60fps doubts. Third-party technical analysis suggests current consoles may not hold 60fps. Analysis, not announcement.

    ✓ Confirmed

Pricing — moved to Confirmed (July 15). Rockstar set the Standard Edition at $80 and the Ultimate at $99.99 with pre-orders. Full breakdown in our editions guide.

    The PlayTheory take

The gap between “confirmed” and “believed” is where launch-week disappointment lives. Rockstar has confirmed remarkably little beyond date, place, and people — which means the game still has room to surprise in both directions. Our rule for the next four months: every leak gets labelled, every claim gets a source, and the GTA VI hub stays the single place where the ledger is kept current.

Think we’ve miscategorised a rumour? Bring your evidence to the PlayTheory Discord — that’s exactly what it’s for.
