The short answer
If you’re coming back to GTA Online before GTA VI lands in November, this guide starts with the bad news: the money method you left behind is worse than you remember, and it was made worse this month.
Title Update 1.73 arrived on 14 July. It cut base payouts across more than twenty heists and contact missions, gutted Cayo Perico specifically, and added a weekly first-completion bonus that rewards variety instead of grinding. Whatever loop you had, it doesn’t work now.
Cayo Perico is not what you left
If you quit somewhere between 2022 and 2024, Cayo Perico was probably your money. It has been nerfed repeatedly since, and 1.73 was the heaviest hit yet.
| Primary target | Was | Now | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pink Diamond | $1,300,000 | $910,000 | 2% |
| Bearer Bonds | $770,000 | $616,000 | 8% |
| Ruby Necklace | $700,000 | $560,000 | 10% |
| Sinsimito Tequila | $630,000 | $400,000 | 80% |
Secondary loot is down about 10% across every category. Cayo is also the one heist excluded from the new weekly bonus. Four runs in five you’ll get the Tequila for $400,000.
It’s still worth running once per cooldown. It is no longer worth building a session around.
The new rule: run each heist once a week
The weekly bonus applies separately to each job and resets every Thursday. Run five different finales and you collect five first-completion bonuses. Run one finale five times and only the first pays properly.
Several heists are now better than you remember, provided you only run them once. The Diamond Casino diamonds tier used to cap at $3,290,000 and your first weekly run now pays $4,283,580. The Pacific Standard Job pays $2,250,000 on the first run of the week.
Some got worse no matter what. Doomsday Act 3 was $1,800,000 and now pays $1,320,000 even with the bonus applied.
Property went upmarket
Mansions arrived in A Safehouse in the Hills, Title Update 1.72, on 10 December 2025. Three properties, and you can own all three at once:
| Mansion | Price |
|---|---|
| The Tongva Estate | $11,500,000 |
| Vinewood Residency | $12,200,000 |
| Richman Villa | $12,800,000 |
The Tongva Estate is the cheapest, and it’s the one Devin Weston owned in GTA V. GTA+ members get $2,000,000 off. There’s no rank requirement — if you have the money, you can buy one the moment you log in.
Optional add-ons run separately: Armory $720,000, Arcade Room $950,000, Car Podium $650,000, Vehicle Workshop $880,000, and a Security Team at $1,750,000. That last one is the one worth having. It reduces business raids on its own, and stacks with business security upgrades to eliminate them entirely. Buy it once and it applies to every mansion you own after.
One feature that pays for itself: the mansion’s AI Concierge can apply a production boost to one of your businesses every 24 real-world hours. Free money, and easy to forget.
1.73 added the Art Studio as a Mansion expansion at $4,700,000, with $1,000,000 off for GTA+ members, reportedly until 12 August. The Art Studio isn’t decoration. It unlocks the new heist.
The new heist, and what it costs
The Kortz Center Heist, added 14 July 2026:
- Playable by 1 to 4 players
- Primary target is the La Dernière Débauche painting — base value $481,250, paying $1,925,000 under the ×4 first-run weekly bonus
- Solo first weekly run: $2,000,000 to $2,250,000 — the $1,925,000 boosted primary plus $75,000 to $325,000 in carryable exhibits
- Four players clearing every exhibit: up to $7,143,000
- Carries a x4 weekly bonus, the largest multiplier in the game
- Repeat runs the same week drop to roughly $304,500 to $481,250, and cost $100,000 to launch
- Cooldowns: 2 hours 24 minutes solo, 48 minutes with a crew
- Relaunch within 15 minutes of Raf’s call and you’re in Hard Mode
- Get detected and your payout is reduced
Total entry cost, cheapest Mansion plus Art Studio, is $16,200,000. That’s the catch, and it’s why Rockstar cutting everything else drew the reaction it did. It’s also widely expected to be GTA Online’s last major update.
If you left before the Acid Lab
The Acid Lab arrived with Los Santos Drug Wars in December 2022. It’s a mobile business inside a Brickade 6×6, run through the Freakshop, and it was built for solo play.
Fully upgraded it sells a full batch for $335,200, or $351,840 with the product named. All-in cost is $1,000,000, and the $750,000 install is currently free for GTA+ members. It can’t be raided.
For a returning player rebuilding a bank, this is the first thing to buy. Every payout cut in 1.73 hit heists. Business income was left alone.
Things you’ll notice that aren’t obvious
- Career Progress Challenges now gate some rewards, including the Vapid Caracara (Armored) added in 1.73. They arrived with the San Andreas Mercenaries update in mid-2023.
- HSW upgrades launched with Expanded and Enhanced (Title Update 1.59) on 15 March 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Both reached PC on 4 March 2025 with GTAV Enhanced. If you play on PC and stopped before then, all of it is new to you.
- GTA+ membership is doing much more work than it used to. Free Acid Lab install, $2,000,000 off Mansions, $1,000,000 off the Art Studio, early vehicle access. Whether that’s good value or a sign of where the game is heading is a fair question, and worth asking before you subscribe.
- Missile Lock-On Jammer is now fitted at Agency mod shops across a long vehicle list. If air griefing is why you left, this is the mechanical answer.
Your first week back
- Check what you own. Old properties may have gained functions. 1.73 also fixed a bug giving incorrect property trade-in values.
- Buy or upgrade an Acid Lab before anything else.
- Run five different finales, not five runs of one. This is the single biggest change to how you play.
- Fit the Lock-On Jammer to whatever you drive in Freemode.
- Don’t chase the Kortz Center yet. Sixteen million is a long project. It’ll still be there.
- Hold off on cosmetics. GTA VI arrives 19 November 2026.
