PlayTheory Media (“PlayTheory”, “we”) operates playtheorymedia.com. This page explains what data we collect and what we do with it — in plain language, because that’s how we write everything.
What we collect
Nothing personal by default. You can read every article on this site without an account, and we don’t require registration. Comments are disabled — discussion happens on our Discord, under Discord’s own privacy policy.
Server logs. Like nearly every website, our server records standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and debugging. These are not used to profile you and are rotated automatically.
Preferences. Your light/dark mode choice is stored in your own browser (localStorage) and never sent to us.
Newsletter (when it launches). If you subscribe, your email address is stored with our email provider solely to send you the newsletter. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you promptly.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell your data. We don’t run third-party advertising trackers. We don’t build profiles of readers. If that ever changes materially, this page will change first and say so at the top.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand which articles people read. Aggregate means counts, not individuals.
Affiliate links
Some articles contain disclosed affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer may set its own cookies under its own policy; that happens on their site, not ours.
External services
Embedded content (YouTube videos, social posts) may set cookies from those platforms when you interact with it. Our social accounts (X, Bluesky, Discord, TikTok, Instagram) are governed by those platforms’ policies.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you (usually: none, or one email address), ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to media [at] playtheorymedia.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.
