GTA VI lands on November 19, 2026, and the space between what Rockstar has actually said and what the internet believes has never been wider. Here’s the PlayTheory ledger: every major fact that’s genuinely confirmed, and the rumours worth tracking — clearly labelled, because that’s the deal here. If Rockstar hasn’t said it, we won’t pretend they have.
Confirmed — straight from Rockstar
Release date: Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, per Rockstar Newswire. No PC version announced at launch — history says it comes later, but that’s inference, not fact.
Setting: the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, with modern-day Vice City at its heart.
Two protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos — a criminal duo, and the first female lead in mainline GTA history.
Pre-orders opened June 25, digital and physical (physical copies ship as a code-in-box), in Standard and Ultimate editions — the Ultimate adds premium vehicles, apparel, and personalised weapons.
Preload dates are set ahead of launch — our full preload breakdown has the schedule and file-size guidance.
Single-player at launch. There is no dedicated multiplayer on day one. Whatever GTA Online’s successor looks like, it arrives after November 19.
What the community is watching
r/GTA6 — 1.3 million members deep — spent the last month on three things: pre-orders going live, the first look at the physical edition, and a new video on Rockstar’s site that had half the subreddit frame-by-framing it within the hour. The pinned counter says it all: 21,000 people flagged as “looking for the next trailer.” Mapping communities — including TGG’s ongoing GTA 6 Mapping Project — keep reconstructing Leonida from every frame of released footage, and their July update stitched in the new pre-order screenshots.
Rumoured — the ledger, by confidence
32-player online sessions. Sourced to former Rockstar employees; Rockstar has said nothing. Unconfirmed.
Procedural glass physics — glass breaking dynamically based on force and impact point. Plausible, widely reported, never confirmed.
An in-game social network with advanced NPC routines triggering side missions — this traces back to an Amazon listing, which is thin sourcing. Unconfirmed.
A user-generated content economy (“GTA 6 will produce millionaires”) — a creator’s claim, not Rockstar’s. Heavily unconfirmed.
60fps doubts. Third-party technical analysis suggests current consoles may not hold 60fps. Analysis, not announcement.
Pricing — moved to Confirmed (July 15). Rockstar set the Standard Edition at $80 and the Ultimate at $99.99 with pre-orders. Full breakdown in our editions guide.
The PlayTheory take
The gap between “confirmed” and “believed” is where launch-week disappointment lives. Rockstar has confirmed remarkably little beyond date, place, and people — which means the game still has room to surprise in both directions. Our rule for the next four months: every leak gets labelled, every claim gets a source, and the GTA VI hub stays the single place where the ledger is kept current.
