July 2026 is remake month. Two weeks after Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced posted the series’ best launch in thirteen years, the other long-rumoured revival arrives: Halo: Campaign Evolved, July 28.
The bar has moved, though. Black Flag Resynced just proved that faithful revival — not reinvention — is what players reward: 2 million copies day one and an 85 on OpenCritic. Campaign Evolved will be measured against that playbook, on a franchise with far more emotional baggage.
The PlayTheory take: Halo doesn’t need to be reimagined; it needs to be respected. If Campaign Evolved resists the urge to “fix” 2001, Xbox finally gets the win its rough July needs. Our review will judge it on exactly that.
