Take-Two held its annual shareholder meeting on 17 September, a virtual meeting two months before Grand Theft Auto VI ships on 19 November. Rockstar announced nothing there, and CEO Strauss Zelnick said that “more specific marketing information will, of course, come from Rockstar Games”. The meeting produced three things: a statement on how GTA VI makes money at launch, a platform remark that stops short of a PC commitment, and an exchange with a shareholder over the company’s record.
Update, 23 September: Take-Two’s 8-K on the meeting reports all ten director nominees re-elected, Strauss Zelnick with 96.8 percent of votes cast for or against and the ten ranging from 93.1 percent (Roland Hernandez) to 99.8 percent (Bing Gordon, Paul Viera). Executive pay passed on an advisory basis with 95.3 percent, an amendment limiting officers’ liability under Delaware law with 83.6 percent, and Ernst & Young was ratified as auditor with 95.3 percent. 85 percent of shares were represented; the meeting was held on 17 September.
“No recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch”
Asked about GTA Online’s place in GTA VI, Zelnick said: “There’s no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch.” He added that GTA Online in GTA V “continues to be a robust business for us”.
Recurrent consumer spending is Take-Two’s own term for revenue that arrives after the sale: Shark Cards, virtual currency, add-ons and in-game purchases. Zelnick’s answer says that revenue is not part of what the company expects on 19 November, and that the GTA V online economy carries on as the earner in the meantime.
He said “anticipated” rather than a flat no. He did not say GTA VI will never carry recurrent spending, and he declined to describe what happens after launch. Rockstar has published nothing about an online mode for GTA VI. GTA VI arrives as a single-player game, and the online business is a later question.
“The PC is becoming more and more important to our company over time”
On platforms, Zelnick told shareholders that Take-Two launches “for any platforms for which there is a meaningful audience” and that “the PC is becoming more and more important to our company over time”.
He did not announce a GTA VI PC version, give a window, or commit Rockstar to one. Pre-orders remain PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S only. Rockstar shipped GTA V on PC about 18 months after the console release and Red Dead Redemption 2 about a year after.
Zelnick’s answer to a shareholder on “years of delays”
An unnamed investor put it to the board that “many shareholders have tolerated years of delays, missed expectations, and continued dependence on a small number of major franchises”.
Zelnick replied: “I would, however, quibble with your characterization in the question.” He then gave his own figures. When the current management team took over in March 2007, he said, revenue was under a billion dollars and the company “was under investigation by at least four government entities, had not filed annual reports in 13 months”. Revenue this year, he said, “is guided to be between 8 and 8.2 billion dollars”.
On the franchise concentration point he offered GTA V, a 2013 release that “remained a top five selling title for 13 years”.
The complaint is the one attached to GTA VI’s two delays, from 2025 to May 2026 to November 2026, and this is the first time Take-Two’s leadership has answered it in public with the game two months out.
What the meeting did not produce
No trailer, no release date change, no pre-order figure, no cast list, no PC announcement, and nothing on GTA VI’s online plans beyond the recurrent spending answer. Take-Two has never given a pre-order number for GTA VI, and nobody at the meeting asked for one.
The PlayTheory take
The launch question is now answered on the record and the post-launch question is not. Since Edition 4 our Rumour Ledger has held GTA Online’s relationship to GTA VI at Unverified and named a Take-Two investor event as the trigger that would move it; this was that event, and the claim moved to Confirmed on the launch question alone. The rest of the meeting was Zelnick answering for the company’s record rather than adding to what is known about the game. The next hard information about GTA VI comes from Rockstar, which is what he told shareholders.
