Alinea Analytics estimates that Resident Evil Requiem has “just passed $500M” in revenue on 8.5 million players. Its 25 September post splits those players PS5 48.1 percent, Steam 43.4 percent and Xbox 8.6 percent, which is about 731,000 copies on Xbox Series X|S. IGN reported the figures the same day. Capcom has published no platform split and no revenue figure, so every number here is Alinea’s.
Alinea’s figures are modelled from its own platform data
Alinea’s post uses data up to 24 September. It gives “8.5M players” and “more than 4M Requiem copies on PS5”, and says 30.8 percent of the PS5 copies were physical, about 1.2 million discs. It does not publish its method beyond saying the figures come from its platform. On our scale that makes the split Likely: strong secondary sourcing without a publisher disclosure. That is why this piece says “estimates” every time. Capcom reports sales quarterly and by title, not by platform.
On Alinea’s split, Requiem sold 4.1 million on PS5, 3.7 million on Steam and 731,000 on Xbox
Requiem launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on the same day, 27 February, so the split compares one game across three stores over the same seven months. Alinea’s figures put PS5 at about 4.1 million copies, Steam at 3.7 million and Xbox at 731,000, one copy in twelve. On the same figures the game is, in Alinea’s words, “the fastest Resi game to hit $500M”.
Alinea has published one other split this month: Star Wars Zero Company, nearly 70 percent on Steam
Alinea’s read of Star Wars Zero Company last week put nearly 70 percent of its estimated one million copies on Steam, per GameSpot. Two estimates from one firm, on two games, in one month, is the whole of the evidence so far.
Microsoft cut 268 Xbox jobs on 22 September and put Ninja Theory into a closure consultation, which we covered last week, and this week Satya Nadella called the cuts “streamlining” on a podcast. Alinea’s number is an estimate of where one game sold, and stays that until Capcom reports Requiem’s shipments or a third multiplatform launch gets the same treatment. We will update this piece with either.
