Eleven notable games were released between 27 August and 24 September 2026, the same four weeks our Rumour Ledger spent on GTA 6’s collector’s box, the Miami sign and the countdown to 19 November. Here they are the way we read the ten best received games of 2026: by the people who bought them on Steam and the PlayStation Store, with the critic average alongside, and each game described the way its own developer describes it. Where we have not played a game, we do not tell you how it feels.

The short answer

The best received of the eleven, by the people who paid for it, is Onimusha: Way of the Sword: 90% positive across 14,139 Steam reviews and 4.69 out of 5 from 19,820 ratings on the PlayStation Store, from a game critics placed at 87. The most reviewed is Marvel’s Wolverine, at 53,720 PlayStation Store ratings in twelve days, and it is a PS5 exclusive, so there is no Steam figure to set against its 4.7. The lowest is Halloween: The Game, 67% positive on Steam and a 63 from critics, though PlayStation players rate it 4.24. Silent Hill: Townfall splits the two stores widest: Mixed at 64% on Steam, 4.4 on the PlayStation Store.

Method

Steam figures are each game’s all-time review record on its own Steam page, counting reviews from Steam purchases, read on 27 September 2026. PlayStation Store figures are the average star rating and the number of ratings on the US store’s product page, read the same day. Critic figures are OpenCritic’s Top Critic Average across all platforms on 27 September, with the number of reviews it counts and the share of critics who recommend the game.

These are three different measurements and we do not average them. A Steam figure is the share of buyers who clicked thumbs up. A store star is a mean out of five. A critic aggregate is a curated average out of a hundred. Two of the eleven have no player figure on one store or both: Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is on Switch 2 only, where Nintendo publishes no rating. Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall had been out three days when these were read; their counts will grow fastest.

Where these sit on our lists

All eleven are on the 2026 games-released list. None is yet in the ten best received games of 2026, which was last read on 13 August; Onimusha’s 90% and Dawnwalker’s 87% on Steam would put both in contention when it is next read. The dated releases still to come, including GTA 6 on 19 November, are on the release calendar, and the GTA VI hub carries everything confirmed about it.
