The PlayStation Store has a large sale running, and the number attached to it everywhere is 4,937. That number is real. It is printed at the top of the store page. It is not a count of games.

Where 4,937 comes from
The sale lives in a store category whose heading is the single word Promotion. Under that heading the store prints a line: showing 24 of 4937 results. Results are listings, and a listing is anything with its own price.
The first page alone makes the point. 007 First Light is one row and its Deluxe Edition Upgrade is another. Crimson Desert Enhanced takes three, counting the standard edition, the Deluxe Edition and a Deluxe Pack item. PGA Tour 2K25 takes six, because four Clubhouse Pass seasons are each their own row.
Deeper in it gets worse. ARK: Survival Ascended carries seven more rows of maps, costumes, a season pass and an expansion pass. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II fills seven rows of levels, costumes and passes on one page without the base game appearing at all.
So the honest sentence is 4,937 listings. Nobody outside Sony has published the number of distinct games, and counting them by hand across 206 pages is not a thing anyone has done.
The store does not call it a Gamescom sale
There is no sale name on the page and no dates on it either. The heading is Promotion. Gamescom sale is press shorthand that grew out of the timing, and the store itself never uses it. A separate All deals category, which sweeps up every discounted listing rather than this promotion alone, reports 5,111.
It ends on 10 September
The end time sits on the product pages rather than the category. 007 First Light reads offer ends 10 September 2026 at 09:59 East African Time, which is 06:59 UTC and 2:59 a.m. Eastern the same day. Three other listings we sampled carry the identical timestamp, so the promotion appears to lift in one go rather than in staggered batches.
Ten worth the click
The badges in that table matter more than the percentages. Red Dead Redemption 2, Mortal Kombat 1, God of War Ragnarok and Space Marine 2 all sit in the PS Plus Extra catalogue, and Borderlands 4 and Clair Obscur are in Premium, so a subscriber may already own them. The reason to buy one anyway is that a purchase survives the game rotating out of the catalogue and a subscription does not.
If you are here for GTA
Red Dead Redemption 2 at $14.99 is the buy. It is the closest thing to a preview of how GTA 6 handles crime and consequence, and Rockstar has spent this week pointing at Red Dead when explaining the new game.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, the Definitive Edition, is 67% off at $19.79. Grand Theft Auto V and the Great White Shark Card bundle is half price at $24.99. If you want the cash rather than the game, the Megalodon card is 15% off at $84.99, which is a worse rate than most of the money methods we track pay for an evening.
Every price above was checked on the US store on 28 August 2026. Regional stores price and end their sales differently, and Sony moves both without notice. Our running PlayStation Store sales hub tracks each wave, and the GTA VI hub has the countdown.
