THE RUMOUR LEDGER · ED. 8 · AUGUST 28 TO SEPTEMBER 4, 2026
Take-Two widened the leak hunt to X and Google, Cyberleek went quiet, and the first subpoena deadline lands today. Elsewhere, a Nintendo Direct date is circulating and Crimson Desert’s expansion got a date on stage. Every claim below is scored by its evidence.
How to read this
We use five evidence states: Confirmed (first-party or on the record), Likely (strong secondary evidence), Possible (plausible, thinly sourced), Unverified (circulating, no real evidence), Debunked (ruled out by the evidence). A claim moves state only when evidence moves it. Coverage volume is not evidence.
The ledger
Nine claims this week: two moved, three entered, four held. Use the filters to sort by evidence state.
Take-Two’s hunt for the GTA VI leaker now runs through four companies: Microsoft, Discord, X and Google. Confirmed, and widened again. TorrentFreak documented DMCA subpoenas to X Corp and Google filed in the Southern District of New York a day after the Microsoft and Discord petitions, handled by a second law firm, Ruttenberg IP Law. The X subpoena names three accounts and demands registration emails, IP logs, phone numbers, connected accounts and device identifiers from June 1 onward; the YouTube side names one video and three channels, one of which, Surfer24k, also appears in the Discord subpoena. TorrentFreak’s August 31 update records the Discord subpoena as formally issued. Two caveats stand. The named X accounts were flagged as impostors by the community before the filing, and Cyberleek’s own watermark on later clips read “CYBERLEEK DOES NOT HAVE TWITTER”, so the subpoenas may be chasing copycats. And the standing caveat holds: being named in a filing is not an accusation. The Microsoft and Discord response deadline is September 4, today; nothing public had landed at press time. Moves on: compliance, objection or a missed deadline, or a ruling on scope.
Source: TorrentFreakCyberleek has stopped leaking and reportedly cashed out roughly $250,000 in cryptocurrency. New entry at Possible. The silence is real: no new material has surfaced since the Lucia Caminos prologue clip in the last week of August, the longest gap since the campaign began on August 20. The cash-out figure is the weak half. It comes from blockchain-watcher claims relayed through aggregate coverage, and none of the published accounts shows a wallet address or a method, which is exactly the kind of number that hardens into fact by repetition. The silence scores Likely on its own; the dollar figure keeps the combined claim at Possible. Moves on: a traceable wallet analysis that shows its method, a resumption of leaks, or a court filing that characterises the proceeds.
Source: Yahoo TechThe leaker holds a playable build of GTA VI. Unverified, third consecutive week. Nothing released before the silence began could only have come from a playable build, and Rockstar’s statement characterised the material as “videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay” and nothing more. Moves on: material only obtainable from a playable build, or a Rockstar characterisation.
Source: our coverage of the Rockstar statementThe leaked footage is from a 2024 or earlier build. Likely, unmoved. Official footage to compare against has existed since the Extended Look aired, but the comparisons in circulation still set compressed uploads against compressed uploads and none shows its method. Moves on: a frame-level comparison that publishes its method and sources, or Rockstar dating the build.
Source: the ledger’s running fileRockstar is preparing to say what GTA Online’s relationship to GTA VI will be. Unverified, and an eighth consecutive silent week. Wednesday’s PlayStation State of Play came and went with no Take-Two presence of any kind, which was the week’s one scheduled stage. Moves on: a Rockstar Newswire post, or a Take-Two remark on an earnings call or at an investor event.
Source: PlayStation BlogThe September 3 reset opens the month-long Business Rivalries Event: Weekly Challenges pay 10X all September, the Arcadius Business Center Executive Office is free this week, and completing one Weekly Challenge by September 23 earns a free Penaud La Coureuse, claimable September 24 to 30. Promoted to Confirmed: read off the Rockstar Newswire post itself. This week is Executives: sell GTA$1,000,000 of Special Cargo for an extra GTA$1,000,000 and the Yeti x LS Customs Tracksuit, with 4X GTA$ and RP on Special Vehicle Work. No heist multiplier changes and no new title update, so the money guide’s ranking does not move; its weekly note now carries this window. Next move: the September 10 reset, when Bikers take the featured slot.
Source: Rockstar Newswire, September 3GTA VI launches November 19, 2026. Confirmed as a statement, Possible as an outcome, unmoved. Rockstar’s August 26 statement reaffirmed the date and called the game “nearly there”; Take-Two’s SEC filing still words it as “planned”. Seventy-six days out. Moves on: the DEF 14A, or any Take-Two restatement.
Source: our coverageA Nintendo Direct airs Thursday, September 10. New entry at Likely, non-GTA. Two insiders (SwitchForce and Nintendo Prime) name the date, and Just Dance’s official account posted that it is “committed to sharing the complete picture with you on September 10”, which is a publisher scheduling around something. Nintendo itself has said nothing as of publication, and Nintendo has skipped a pattern year before (2024). Moves on: Nintendo announcing, or September 10 passing quietly.
Source: Insider GamingCrimson Desert’s expansion, Charting the Unknown, launches October 15, 2026. New entry at Confirmed, non-GTA. Shown with a date at Wednesday’s State of Play, which is first-party enough: the publisher put the date on its own stage. Logged here because dated DLC six weeks out is the kind of claim that usually spends a month as a rumour first, and this one skipped the queue.
Source: GameSpot’s State of Play roundupWhat did not move
ROCKSTAR LEAK STATEMENT stays Confirmed and open on its narrow questions: Rockstar has still not dated the build, described the breach’s scope, or named anyone. MAP SCALE AND LENGTH and PREVIEW HANDS-OFF hold at Confirmed with nothing new on the record. FRAME RATE holds at Likely: Rockstar’s sentence remains “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5”, and no performance modes have been published. The four claims added to Ed. 7 off-cycle on August 31 all hold: CONSOLE FRAME RATE at Likely, FIRST PERSON at Possible, SKATEBOARDING AND SURFING at Likely, and STREET WIDTH at Likely. PRE-ORDER FIGURE holds at Likely with no Take-Two figure or filing. PRELOAD, NOVEMBER 12 holds at Confirmed. RDR2 UPGRADE logs a fifth quiet edition. 2K FOOTBALL RIVAL logs no movement. PS PLUS MONTHLY rolls over; October’s Billbil-kun window opens toward the end of this month.
Struck, but tracked
Debunked, and still resurfacing: the $1 BILLION CLAIM on pre-orders, the AUGUST 6 TRAILER, SITE CHANGE SIGNAL readings of backend edits, the TRAILER 3 WINDOW, ALL NINE REGIONS, and our own KORTZ CENTER error, which stays on this list because a ledger that only lists other people’s mistakes is not a ledger.
THE PLAYTHEORY TAKE
This week’s movement is all in the legal response. For the first time since August 20 there is nothing new to score from the leaker, and everything to score from the response: four companies subpoenaed, two law firms working in parallel, and a response deadline that lands the day this edition publishes. The next movement will come from the SDNY docket. If Microsoft or Discord complies quietly, the next movement will be invisible until it surfaces in a later filing; if either objects, the objection itself will say something about how broad SDNY thinks a leak hunt is allowed to be. And hold the $250,000 number at arm’s length. A wallet total with no wallet shown is a rumour wearing a decimal point, and the ledger has watched that trick before.
